World of Webrings - Introduction and Welcome
The World of Webrings is primarily a Discussion Group about webrings. A discussion group that has 2 interfaces, and a supporting website. The Mailing List interface and the Forum interface (new Oct 2006).
These interfaces allows members to participate in discussions using their email client or the web.
All mailing list postings are archived in the Mailing List Archive, with this archive having the ability to be searched using the search tool provided on the Mailing List page.
Searching the Mailing List Archive is often the best way to find the answer to what ever question/s you might have about webrings. It is often best to do a search of both the archive and the website before asking a question, a question that might have already been answered previously...
The Posting Guidelines found on the Mailing List page should be reviewed before posting your first message.
For reasons of security and avoiding Spam it is required that you first subscribe to the Mailing List and Register with the Forum.
This website is the result of the collaborative effort of some experienced ringmasters engaged in the webring community.
Our mission is to define and develop the webring concept, and to promote public awareness, acceptance, exploration and enjoyment of webrings, by sharing experiences and providing resources and practical help to ringmasters and members.
If you would like to become an editor the first step is to
subscribe to our Mailing List so that you can get familiarized, we always need help around here! You don't have to be a webring expert to help out either, we all have various talents to offer!

Hi, At the request of a member Ringmaster I have just added a new Ringlink feature to the WOW Webring System. It prevents Spam in the form of automatic submissions of new sites to your webring. It's a simple cookie solution, which isn't as safe as CAPTCHA, but on the other hand your members are not bothered with extra typing. The Ringlink Developer says it has proved to be very effective, with automatic Spam sites that he had previously received on the Ringlink Demo Ring, having ceased completely. See the debate. Please feel free to activate the new feature by clicking the Edit ring button in Ringadmin, and then placing a check mark next to where it says Prevent automatic (Spam) submissions of sites. This new feature is not compatible with using separate off system forms on your webring's homepage. In other words, if you enable the feature, new sites need to be submitted using a link from your webring's homepage to the system's 'newsite.pl' page else the program will not function as expected. So, if using off system forms for your webring you would need not enable this new feature. If you have any issues concerning this new feature please contact Ringlink Development. Ringlink is the engine that powers this system.

Replaces the system index page that comes with the program, with a entire webring system website including demo ring, color chart, and contact form. This being a system website that provides your ringmasters with all the tools they need to setup and manage a Ringlink powered webring.

I have reasons to fear that the webring service CrickRock, which is powered by Ringlink, will be closed down shortly. To limit the damage for the case that would happen, I recommend all CrickRock ringmasters to backup their rings as soon as possible.

The World of Webrings now has it's own Webring Directory. Webrings are a fun and easy way to find groups of websites with related content. Each website in a webring is linked to another by a simple navigation bar, allowing you to easily visit each website in the ring. Each webring is managed by a Ringmaster or ring owner. Questions or comments about one of the rings in our directory should be directed to the Ringmaster for that ring. Please feel free to add your Webring (having at least 3 member sites) to the directory, or browse our list of categories to visit any ring listed in the directory. If you would like to join any of the rings listed in our directory please contact the Ringmaster for the ring that you are interested in for details. Contact information for each Ringmaster is listed along with the description for each ring. This is a directory where you can list your webring no matter what webring system is hosting it, and/or what webring program is powering it. The Webring of Excellence is for rings listed in the directory, rings that meet this ring's criteria for excellence, and have at least 15 member sites.

Principal new features are:
- Site title on Ring Stats page now links to associated site
- Fixed bug where Order by Site ID would work incorrectly
- Added ability to order ring by Site Title
- Added Site ID and removed Owner Name from email select box
- Radio buttons in email form with no associated sites are disabled
- Added "Top Sites Generating Errors" list to Admin section
- Improved caching method - cache is less-likely to get "stuck"
- Fixed Navigation Bar links to work better with framed sites
- Added optional customizable "Help" text, linked in Control Panel
- Moved many orm_head.php ini variables to the Ring Setup GUI
- Fixed errors which appeared when a ring email had no recipients
- Fixed some minor caching and database traffic issues
- Fixed saving/display of HTML entities in code textareas
- Added Admin site list sorting by Title or URI (via javascript)
- Ringlinks work better with Apache rewritten URIs
- Removed pretty-much-meaningless Top IP stats section
- Optimized stats caching - much faster for rings with many sites
- Dumped old mailing backend for more robust PHPMailer
- Added storage and display of member join date
- Added Polish language file

WOW webrings

We now have 2 new WOW webrings: -
The WOW Resource Webring
which is open to all websites that explain, explore, and/or feature the
various aspects of a webring system, a webring, or both. The aim of
this webring is to provide all our members and guests with the
opportunity to access all webring related resources to be found on the
world wide web. Webring resources that either add to or enhance those
webring related resources already available here within this website. The WOW Member's Webring
which is open to all websites whose webmaster is a member of the World
of Webrings website. To join you must use your 'WOW Member ID' as your
'Site ID', and each member can only have 1 website join the ring. This
website can be any website that is owned and operated by the WOW
member. The aim of this webring is for WOW members to better know each
other, by visiting each other's websites!
Note: These 2 webrings are hosted by the WOW Resource Webring System, a webring system powered by the Ringlink Webring Program, a program which was created by Gunnar who is a founding member of this website.
